Those living in Maesteg Park and Oakwood will have started to receive letters outlining the new trial bus service that will start on the 27th of February 2024.
The trail service will run on Tuesdays and Fridays and will operate between 9:00am and 15:00pm on a 16 seat bus that also provides wheelchair accessibility. This is the most cost effective starting point for a trial period of this bus service.
Feedback is welcomed on the service and we will be regularly meeting with the service provider (Forge Travel) to monitor usage and any issues along the way.
As the trail period progresses and feedback reviewed, there is potential to scale the service to more days, longer operating times or even additional routes.
Maesteg Park and Oakwood estate have been chosen for this trial since there has been no public transport in the area since 2019 when the prior 37 service was terminated.
As a public entity, we are limited on where we can operate such a service due to constraints with private enterprises. For example, where a current route is serviced by a private company – we cannot use that bus stop for a ‘free’ service.
